Chasing Tess edition by Annette Lyon Contemporary Romance eBooks

I read this short, sweet story a few years ago and I LOVED IT!! I loved how Annette could pull me into the plot so thoroughly and quickly! We've all had shattered hopes and I felt Tess's disappointment and anguish right with her. Having read this in one of my many anthologies (I love well-written novellas!) I didn't remember the title, author, or which book it was in!
So glad Annette republished this individually-just the right length, angst and everlasting love to start my day right!!

Chasing Tess edition by Annette Lyon Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

This novella is really sweet and it's not the usual hero. The hero is definitely not that charming in the beginning and I feel sad for Tess.

Tess believed in the promise that James made before he entered law school that he would marry her after he graduates. But when the hope that she carried for three years had been crushed by other big deal that James got, she did what's best, she ran. She was disappointed and absolutely sad because she felt that he kept taking her for granted after what she had given and sacrificed for him. It doesn't help that his mother doesn't like her at all.

James realized that he had to make things right before he made a mistake of letting the best thing he ever had go away. When Tess ran, he just understood his need of her.

I really like this story with the way James chased her.
"You don't know what you have until you lost it."
It rang true for the whole story.

I felt really sad and annoyed of James at first. But when I saw his determination and what he'd done to ensure that she would want to be back at him, I liked him a bit, just a bit. Because three years of just putting Tess in "a cold shelf" didn't do him justice at all.

This story doesn't really show their relationship much. I just know that Tess had always look like his errand girl. Sure he did buy her some expensive stuff, but their moment and the seriousness in James for their relationship is surely lacking in all times that he studied in law school. He's not the kind of guy, a girl usually would be fighting for. So when Tess just gave up on him, I understood.

Overall, this story is nice and it's a good novella.

Now I have Spring Fever!! Chasing Tess has all of the elements that I love in a story. Tess is a dreamer, much like me. She has been visualizing, planning, and exerting her patience, waiting for her boyfriend of years now to graduate from law school, since he claims he can't even think of the future until after he's done. At his graduation party, he delivers some shocking news, which sends Tess running, to protect her heart.

I felt so sorry for Tess and could understand where she was coming from. I tend to overreact in situations and make rash decisions and Tess is quick to jump to conclusions and wonder where she went wrong. I love the way the story is told, with conflict and emotion. I felt a connection to Tess and her story.

One of my favorite things about these anthologies is that I can sit down and devour a satisfying story in one sitting, spacing them out over a few days, or I can read them all fairly quickly. Chasing Tess is a tasty little morsel. I thought the story was developed well and wrapped up quite well for being a novella. I always look forward to what these authors will write next!

Content mild romance. Clean!
It's a sweet story about two people who have been making mistakes with their relationship and finally figure it out.

Unfortunately, it's hard to feel sympathy for them. I have a hard time believing that any boyfriend would be so clueless as to not talk to his girlfriend about an internship that would force him to move across the country rather than keeping her in suspense with everyone else.

And if he were that clueless, then I can't help but doubt he'd care enough about his girlfriend to change. He's been a user, but also failed to communicate to a pretty extreme level.

Tess has been a doormat but vows to change - which is great - but more than that, she should have been communicating better with him as well.

So I liked that the story has a positive resolution for the protagonists, but the protagonists are hard to relate to or like very much.
The story was too short, and too little too late. I don't have much hope that they are going to do any better.
I was happy to get acquainted with stories by Annette Lyon. I like short, to the point stories that are good clean fun type. I will be getting more of her stories in the future.
